My oldest sister gave each of my children nicknames before they were born. For McLaren, she started calling her “Bunny” and it stuck. Coincidently, she loves bunnies and sleeps with her stuffed bunnies every night. So naturally, it seemed fitting to do a Bunny theme for her first birthday… Some “Bunny” is One!
I always keep the kids parties pretty simple and always DIY. We haven’t yet expanded our birthday invites beyond our family… I’m not ready for the full-blown “friend” parties just yet. Maybe once they turn six and really know what’s going on :).
My favorite part of the decor was the balloon installation I made. I didn’t want to tear it down afterwards; in fact, I’m pretty sure I kept it hanging for at least a couple of weeks.
Like the decor, I kept the menu pretty simple. We went with one of our favorite sandwiches that it always a crowd pleaser – homemade chicken salad on fresh, bakery croissants. We had fresh veggies with dip and chips.
I filled apothecary jars with pastel bunny marshmallows and cotton candy. I also made chocolate covered peeps with cotton candy tails. So easy to make and so much better than “plain” peeps.
Instead of a birthday hat, I made these floral bunny ears. My second favorite part of the party… though not necessarily a love by McLaren. She only kept them on while she was distracted by her first cake (which was her favorite part).
If you keep up with us, you probably caught on that McLaren is well over one at this point… in fact, she’s about to turn two.
