For months, President Trump has been pointing out that Amazon has been taking advantage of loopholes to avoid paying taxes on goods sold on the internet, but that isn’t going to happen anymore thanks to Congress.
Heeding President Trump’s call to properly tax Amazon and its subsidiaries, the House of Representatives passed a new “internet tax” that would ensure companies like Amazon could not avoid paying their fair share to society.
This is despite the more than $1.5 billion Amazon put into lobbying efforts last year alone in an effort to stop lawmakers from implementing an internet sales tax — a $1.5 billion that seems to have been wasted thanks to President Trump’s efforts.
In a statement released Tuesday, Amazon spokeswoman Gertrude Flemish called the decision “irresponsible” and says that it will “damage American business and lead to price increases.”
This is great news for anyone who wants to see us balance the budget in the near future but bad news for Democrats who depend on Amazon having all that extra money to throw into their campaign coffers every election year.
Once again, President Trump and his allies are showing that they want nothing but what’s best for America. We need to keep draining the swamp until there’s nothing left.
